🌟 Introduction: Why Sikkim?

Hi there! I’m Prabhu Kumar Saw, a travel lover from Hazaribag, Jharkhand. This is the story of my first solo trip, a journey full of adventure, self-discovery, and stunning scenery.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, life felt dull. I craved freedom and nature’s beauty. That’s when I discovered Sikkim—a land of snow-covered mountains, rich culture, and peaceful landscapes. It felt like the perfect place for my first solo adventure.

In October 2021, I packed my bags and set off on this unforgettable journey. Here’s how it went!

🚂 Day 1: Journey Begins – Hazaribag to Siliguri

I took a train from Koderma Station to Kolkata, then another train to Siliguri. Here, I faced my first challenge—Sikkim required two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and I had only one. So, I rushed to a private hospital, got my second dose, and after an exhausting day, I was finally ready for the trip.

🚗 Day 2: Siliguri to Gangtok – First Glimpse of the Mountains

The drive from Siliguri to Gangtok was about four hours long, passing through lush green mountains and misty roads. The moment I arrived in Gangtok, I headed to MG Marg, a lively street with cozy cafés, street performers, and mouth-watering momos.

“MG Marg was magical—full of life, delicious food, and warm people.”

I also met Krishna, a friendly local, who showed me some hidden gems of the city.

🏞️ Day 3: Gangtok to Lachen – Nature at Its Best

I joined a shared car with eight fellow travelers, including a newlywed couple, solo backpackers, and our driver, Jojo Bhai. The journey from Gangtok to Lachen was stunning—cascading waterfalls, Teesta River flowing beside us, and fresh mountain air.

❄️ Day 4: Lachen to Gurudongmar Lake – A Dreamlike Experience

At 17,800 ft, Gurudongmar Lake is one of the highest lakes in the world. The icy winds, low oxygen levels, and the breathtaking beauty of the lake left me speechless.

“Standing there, I felt like I was on top of the world—surrounded by pure, untouched nature.”

🌸 Day 5: Lachung & Yumthang Valley – A Slice of Heaven

Lachung welcomed me with its warm, friendly locals. The next day, I explored Yumthang Valley, known as the Valley of Flowers. The vibrant fields, hot springs, and grazing yaks made it an unforgettable sight.

🏁 Day 6: Zero Point – Snow Wonderland

At Zero Point, everything was covered in thick white snow. The freezing air and breathtaking scenery made the adventure even more special. I spent my last evening bonding with fellow travelers, celebrating our incredible journey together.

👋 Day 7: Saying Goodbye – Back to Reality

After a heartfelt goodbye to my new friends, I returned to Siliguri and took the train back home. This trip wasn’t just about traveling—it was a life-changing experience that taught me confidence, independence, and the joy of solo adventures.
